Poppy Fields: So far so good

This past couple of weeks i've been focused on producing patterns based upon poppies, after seeing a poppy trend on pinterest for AW 16/17. My aim is to produce a range of prints which are influenced by this beautiful flower. So this post is an update on my most recent progress.

Ive mainly spent my time generating decorative illustrations of poppies this past week, using a range of different drawing equipment. By using thick and thin pens its allowed me to get a range of different thicknesses of line for the illustrations. To help me progress these drawings further Ive decided to set myself the task of producing some paintings of the flower (time consuming I know!) in the hope that they would help me more this project forwards into producing a strong range of prints.

I began to manipulate my illustrations on photoshop to see how they looked in the chosen colour theme and difference of scale. I love how effective this illustration looks against the dark moody background, this almost gives the flower an oriental appearance, especially when applied to the fashion piece.

I further developed an idea I had to build up the poppies to create a multi-directional pattern, in a two tone colour theme to give the illusion of a field of poppies. This patterns looks well in a larger scale as it gives real emphasis on the detail within the flower.

I discovered that by changing the colours of the flower allowed me to overlay and manipulate the sizes of the illustrations. Which gives the sense of the flowers being within a field as the wind softly blows the petals from side to side.

Wait until next week to see my next update on this trend...

All of these images are my own.
